What the role is about:

The Dispensary Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing the procurement and inventory strategy for cannabis dispensary operations. This role oversees vendor relationships, product assortment planning, purchasing decisions, and inventory management to ensure dispensaries maintain a consistent supply of high-quality cannabis products and ancillary items. 

What you'll do:

The Purchasing Manager analyzes sales data, monitors inventory levels, and collaborates with retail leadership, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure the dispensary product mix aligns with customer demand, market trends, and company financial objectives. This position also ensures all purchasing activities comply with applicable cannabis regulations and internal policies. 

What impact you'll make:

Product Procurement & Vendor Management 

  • Manage purchasing activities for cannabis products including flower, pre-rolls, vapes, concentrates, edibles, tinctures, and topicals, as well as non-cannabis retail items and consumables. 

  • Establish and maintain relationships with licensed cannabis vendors, manufacturers, and distributors. 

  • Evaluate vendor performance, pricing structures, and product quality to ensure optimal sourcing decisions. 

  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and promotional opportunities with vendors to maximize margins and sales performance. 

  • Coordinate product ordering, delivery schedules, and vendor communications. 

Inventory Management 

  • Monitor dispensary inventory levels across all product categories to maintain appropriate stock levels and avoid shortages or overstock situations. 

  • Analyze sales trends, product velocity, and seasonal demand to inform purchasing decisions. 

  • Coordinate with dispensary managers and warehouse teams to ensure proper inventory distribution across locations. 

  • Manage product lifecycle planning, including new product introductions and slow-moving inventory strategies. 

  • Manage the online menu and ensure photos and descriptions are all up to date  

Product Assortment Strategy 

  • Develop and maintain a balanced product assortment that meets customer demand while supporting company brand strategy. 

  • Track market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive product offerings. 

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to plan product launches, promotions, and vendor partnerships. 

  • Ensure dispensary menus reflect an appropriate mix of premium, mid-tier, and value-priced products. 

Compliance & Documentation 

  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with state cannabis regulations and company policies. 

  • Maintain accurate records of vendor licenses, purchase orders, invoices, and product documentation. 

  • Verify all cannabis purchases are properly recorded within seed-to-sale tracking systems and ERP platforms. 

  • Ensure product packaging and labeling meet regulatory requirements prior to being offered for sale. 

Data Analysis & Reporting 

  • Utilize POS, ERP, and analytics platforms to monitor product performance and sales trends. 

  • Track KPIs such as inventory turnover, product margins, sell-through rates, and category performance. 

  • Prepare purchasing reports and provide recommendations to leadership regarding product mix and purchasing strategies. 

Cross-Department Collaboration 

  • Work closely with retail managers, marketing teams, and supply chain departments to align purchasing decisions with business goals. 

  • Coordinate with inventory and logistics teams to ensure accurate receiving and product availability. 

  • Support marketing initiatives by sourcing products for promotional campaigns and brand partnerships. 

Qualifications 

  • 3–5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or inventory management, preferably within the cannabis industry or retail sector. 

  • Experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating purchase agreements. 

  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with sales and inventory data. 

  • Knowledge of cannabis product categories and market trends. 

  • Familiarity with seed-to-sale tracking systems and ERP platforms preferred. 

  • Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills. 

Technical Knowledge 

  • Cannabis product categories and market trends 

  • Inventory management and forecasting techniques 

  • Retail pricing strategies and margin management 

  • Vendor contract negotiation 

  • POS systems, ERP platforms, and seed-to-sale tracking systems 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to occasionally lift and move retail inventory shipments up to 40 pounds. 

  • Ability to travel between dispensary locations as needed. 

Preferred Experience 

  • Experience managing purchasing for multi-location cannabis dispensaries. 

  • Familiarity with cannabis regulatory frameworks and product compliance requirements. 

  • Experience working with retail analytics platforms such as BDSA, Hoodie Analytics, or similar market intelligence tools.

The salary for this position is 65k annually. Competitive health, dental, vision, life, and 401k insurance benefits offered.
