What the role is about:
We are seeking a Lead Facilities Technician who is responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the Retail locations and the Hurlock, MD facility. In this role you will maintain cleanliness throughout the facilities, perform basic repairs, and work with contractors on facilities improvements, repairs, and expansions. This position reports to the Director of Operations.
What impact you’ll make:
- Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing maintenance requirements (both planned and unplanned) on irrigation, cultivation, production, packaging, processing equipment, and utility systems (to provide a continuous supply of heat, cooling, electrical, power, gas, or air required for operations).
- Readily available for emergency repairs in breakdown situations.
- Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and facilities.
- Train, instruct and assist lower-level technicians.
- Assist in maintaining parts and supplies inventory by reporting low supply levels to Manager.
- Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes.
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts
- Manages outside vendor communication and schedules for facility systems
- Completes daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures
- Inspects and repairs equipment at the user level and recommends scheduling and monitoring of high-level maintenance by certified professionals
- Inspects and repairs hot water heaters, industrial dish washer, appliances, sinks, toilets, lockers, furniture, etc.
- Inspects and repairs plumbing leaks in the irrigation system
- Inspects and routinely replaces grow lights according to the rotating light replacement schedule
- Repairs grow tables
- Maintains air compressors and chillers in support of Extraction procedures
- In conjunction with the Corporate Facilities Manager, may travel to retail locations to make repairs and assist in scheduling of contractors
- May operate a computer which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems
- Installs electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects; replaces and repairs wiring as needed
- Repairs electrical equipment and control circuits; replaces faulty electrical switches; repairs refrigeration/freezer equipment
- May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security or coordinate with contractors for work beyond his/her expertise
- May install computer cable
- Assists with the renovation/remodeling of building and structures inside and out
- Performs outside custodial duties such as snow/ice removal as required
- Obtains estimates for supplies, repair parts; and orders items with approval of the General Manager and Corporate Facilities Manager as needed
- Responsible for scheduling and/or performing routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and systems
- Responsible for procurement and availability of vehicles, tools, materials, and equipment when necessary and ensures that they are used safely, effectively, and efficiently
- Ensure that all facility resources are well-maintained, well-organized, and reordered promptly
- Conduct yearly review of all processes to ensure proper permitting and licensing
- Attend weekly meetings – prepare and present situational updates on Facilities Maintenance
- Other duties may be assigned by the General Manager and Corporate Facilities Manager
What you’ve accomplished:
- Five years of experience in facilities maintenances or related field
- Proven Maintenance Experience
- Skilled in the use of power tools
- Ability to use common tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches
- Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts
- Ability to check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including off business hours as needed
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Excellent time-management skills
- Ability to effectively plan and prioritize
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to focus; attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to communicate clearly and calmly
- Ability to travel to retail location by personal vehicle
Physical Demands
Ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication may be required. Standing for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect equipment. Some heavy lifting may be required. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally may be required.
Work Environment
The job is performed indoors and outdoors. Must be able to work in hot, humid environments for extended periods of time with exposure to dust, allergens, and water. Appropriate PPE will be provided. Activities include extended periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, stooping and bending. Twisting in tight areas may also be required at times.
